Now it is time to shift towards the massage of babies and know about the essential oils which can be used to massage a newborn baby and help in strengthening the muscles & joints of the baby and ensure proper body functions.
1. Coconut Oil
The finest & extremely gentle oil for the baby’s tender skin is surely coconut oil. It is anti-bacterial in nature & prevents the occurrence of any infections on the soft skin of the bay due to environmental allergies.
Coconut oil is extensively used in the southern part of the country for taking care of the skin in a gentle way. The use of coconut oil is also governed by the fact that coconut oil is widely available in South India due to the tropical climatic conditions.
2. Olive Oil
Perhaps the most common and preferred oil for baby massage is olive oil as it is known to have anti-inflammatory properties. Olive oil is gentle on the skin, keeps the baby skin ultra soft & moisturizes it intensively.
It is also believed in some parts of the country that using olive oil on the baby’s skin eventually evens out the complexion of the baby however there are still no proofs of the fact being true!
3. Almond Oil
Almond oil is extracted from almonds and is highly rich in Vitamin E content which is really known to be great for the health of the skin. Just as almond oil is so effective on adult skin, in the same way, it is beneficial for the bay’s soft skin and moisturizes it, keeps the skin free from any skin infections.
4. Mustard Oil
Mustard oil is actually an edible oil and has a pungent smell but in spite of that it has been extensively used from oil times for the massage of the baby and most mothers swear to use this oil on a preferential basis due to the amazing benefits of mustard oil.
People in North India relate it with many traditional practices. Mustard oil is great for the skin & hair as it is enriched with the goodness of essential acids.
5. Jojoba Oil
Jojoba oil is actually a lighter oil than the above-mentioned oils and actually resembles the sebum secreted by the oil glands on the skin surface so it serves as a perfect massage oil for newborn babies and keeps their skin free from dryness or itchiness. This oil is highly rich in vitamin E due to which it is so good for the skin.
So, these were a few most preferred oils which are used by mothers to massage their babies.
