Chickpea is one of the best food for babies. Chickpeas can be introduced to babies between 6-8 months of age. They are packed with proteins and a rich source of zinc, magnesium, folate, iron and fibre. But doctors say tomatoes should be introduced to babies after 9-10 months of age as tomatoes are acidic which irritates the immature digestive track of babies.

Whenever iam cooking chickpea curry for family ( that is after boiling the chickpeas) i make sure to keep half a cup of boiled chickpea and make a soup for my baby in the evening. So here is how I make this chickpea tomato soup.
Ingredients
- Half cup boiled chickpea
- 2 tomato puree
- 1 onion chopped
- A pinch of crushed ginger
- 1 clove garlic
- Turmeric, salt as per taste
- Few coriander leaves
How to Make Chickpea Tomato Soup for Babies
Heat little + oil in a small pan. Olive oil is healthiest, but i also use desi ghee sometimes. Add the chopped onions with ginger and garlic and fry till onions gets soft and pink.
Now add the tomato puree and chickpeas and continue to stir. Add salt and turmeric, pour half cup of water, cover the pan and let it simmer for 10 minutes till the tomatoes are cooked.
Pour the mixture in a blender along with the coriander leaves and blend till smooth puree. Add more water if the consistency is too thick.
Serve with a little butter and a pinch of roasted cumin powder(optional). pepper powder too gives nice aroma but since my daughter dislikes it, I replaced it with cumin powder.
