Capsicum Tomato Salsa Recipe for 1 Year Babies

August 14, 2021 by Eliana Leave a Comment

Being mother of a toddler, i often find it difficult to make my baby eat foods that i regularly prepare for her. At times she just won’t eat anything – pushing me to the brink of an utter frustration. I think the story is not different with other mommies also, especially those who are vegetarians. It is true, non-veggies always enjoy better food options for their babies – but the challenge of making a toddler eat home-cooked food is more or less same with almost all mothers.

In my case, whenever i think of preparing a veg item for my baby, i get really tensed – my 19 month old daughter just doesn’t like chewing any vegetable expect potatoes! So i try the other way – use all these vegetables for a warm soup, and it goes into her mouth without much tantrums.

As long as I’m able to feed my baby vegetables (at least in soup form) – i’m happy like any other mommies. It really makes me relived. But the real trick is for this relief is that i just need to keep trying different types of soups for her – otherwise it becomes monotonous to her and i’m back to square one – ‘baby doesn’t eat anything !’.

One of my favourite in my baby soup list is ‘CAPSICUM TOMATO SALSA’. Here is the recipe:-

Capsicum Tomato Salsa Recipe Ingredients:

  • Half cup capsicum chopped
  • 1 cup tomato chopped
  • Half onion chopped
  • 1 clove garlic
  • A pinch of ginger
  • Few coriander leaves

Let’s start:

  • Heat little pure desi ghee (preferred for its great flavour) or cooking oil (if you are not too sure about the ghee).
  • Saute onions, minced garlic and ginger till onions become soft and pink.
  • Add the tomatoes and capsicum, little salt and turmeric and sauté on low flame.

  • After about 5 minutes of stirring, add a cup of water and let it cook on low flame with closed lid for about 8-10 minutes.

  • When it cools down, blend it with coriander leaves to make a smooth texture.
  • Serve it with a little butter and a pinch of roasted cumin powder. Capsicum has a very strong flavour which is not very baby friendly, so adding a little tomato (which is my child’s favourite) and coriander leaves tones it down to a mild flavour.

The other evening i served my daughter with tomato soup. A simple and plain tomato soup can also be prepared with the same procedure with 2 cups chopped tomatoes, half chopped onions and 2 cloves of garlic.
